Mena | Tween Photoshoot | Janice Sanford Photography

Mena is a 10 year old tiny spring of endless energy. We were two minutes into her photoshoot and she had already shown me that she could toggle between bubbling laughter, a sweet smile, big quiet eyes, and a serious pout - at just a hint of direction. Oh, yeah...this was going to be fun!📷 I had laid out plans to shoot in four different locations for her Tween Photoshoot, with the thought that we would just get to as many as we could.  She rolled through them with all the enthusiasm of a golden retriever and the resilience of an Olympic athlete!  Her Tween Session sky rocketed to the top of my photography fun-o-meter and I'm sure this won't be the last time I see her through my lens!

Maria | Downtown Columbia, SC photoshoot

Sometimes you meet someone and you just know that you have to see them through your lens. I promised myself that this would be the year I would shoot more often just for the sole reason of being creative, gathering images that pushed me beyond where I normally step - cue the lovely Maria.😍 I wanted to shoot a downtown session that was edgier than my usual style and it only took Maria one glance at my inspiration board to sign on to this project, as both model and collaborator.  This day gave me so much joy and definitely left me on a creative high. The results were everything I hoped for, and more.  Wondering how I know the lovely Maria? She is the artist who keeps my hair looking like I've been on some fabulous vacation where individual strands got sun-kissed by magic. Sitting in her chair at the gorgeous Parlour 818 is definitely on my list of happy places!

Halie's Birthday Celebration | Columbia, SC Photographer

If there is anything we need from 2021, it's more reasons to celebrate and if there was ever a year to make a big deal over birthdays...we have arrived!  When Halie said she wanted to do a styled shoot for her birthday, she didn't have to ask me twice.  It was just the kind of fun, creative project I'm always up for and, it gave me a chance to celebrate my daughter's birthday with her just a little early.  Happy #26 baby girl, bring on the party!

Erin | Snowy Day | Columbus, OH

When the forecast called for SNOW on Christmas Day in Ohio, I thought - ok, not a big deal - mostly because I live in South Carolina and snow is most definitely not a big deal, more clearly not a deal at all.  A few days before Christmas I carried out my usual song and dance of finding just the right location for this shoot with Erin, (the credit actually goes to my dear, observant husband - who wanted to do something that day in addition to scouting for photography locations😊). So when the Christmas snow (a very big deal to this southern girl!) turned the park I had chosen into a winter wonderland, I was 100% there for it!😍 Give me allll the snowy day shoots...I am hooked!! I'm already missing my girl, but oh my, am I ever in love with these images from our magical snowy day photoshoot💟

Carson | Citadel Cadet | Columbia, SC Photographer

Last fall I photographed Carson, for the first time, as my Senior Rep for the class of 2020 and I found him to be the most polite, well mannered young man - with a ready smile hiding behind braces...which he hated.  Fast forward to one year later and guess what I found?  The same polite, well mannered young man, brimming with self-confidence and pride at wearing the uniform of the Citadel Cadet.  He still has the most welcoming smile - no braces now, and he's totally nailed the straight face since he's been at The Citadel - even though his Dad kept doing things to crack him up during our shoot.😀  Special thanks to Dad for coming along as the official "Wardrobe Handler"!!
